Our Legion is where we honour the brave men and women who have served our country & community. Join us in our mission to support veterans, RCMP, & first responders while fostering community spirit and creating lasting connections.

Our Mission and Commitment

At Caroline Legion Branch #177, we are dedicated to serving our community and honouring the sacrifices made by our veterans, RCMP and 1st Responders. Located in the heart of Caroline, Alberta, our branch is a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, an organization that has been supporting veterans and their families for decades. Our mission is to ensure that the legacy of those who served our country is remembered and celebrated, while also providing a supportive environment for our local community.

Services Offered

We offer a variety of services aimed at fostering community spirit and providing support to our veterans. From hosting memorial events, the Poppy Fund Drive, Remembrance Day Poster and Literary, and community gatherings, to providing resources and assistance for veterans, RCMP, First Responders, and their families. Branch #177 is at the forefront of community engagement. Our facilities are available for rental for various events, including weddings, funerals, meetings, and social gatherings, making us a versatile venue for all occasions.

We are looking forward to 100 yrs. of the establishment of the Royal Canadian Legion in 2026.  The Royal Canadian Legion made its beginning on July 17, 1926, under Queen Elizabeth II. Keep an eye on our website for more information on this momentous occasion.

Caroline Legion too had a momentous occasion.  Just 20 years later, in 1946, we were established, making this our 80th year. So we are planning a great event, not sure yet when so...

Steve Proudler

President

Steve Proudler is a dedicated community leader with over 30 years of military experience in managing local veterans' services. His commitment to supporting our members and organizing community events ensures that every voice is heard and valued. 2026 will be his 2nd year as President

Darlene Howe-Houlton

Treasurer

Darlene has been active in many roles at the legion, not only as our current Treasurer, but also as a past President and Secretary. She keeps our Poppy Campaign going year after year, as well as being one of our chief cooks and bottle washers. In 2026, we will see her as our Treasurer again.

Leona Durocher

Secretary

Our new 2026 Secretary is Leona Durocher. She is not only our new Secretary, but she is also a new member to us. What a welcome aboard!

Donna Kanton

Donna is our 1st Vice President and, as the 2026 1st Vice President, Past Secretary, Booking Manager, and also 1 of our bartenders.

Scott Montgomery

Service Officer

This will be Scott's 2nd year as Service Officer. Where he assists veterans will various medical or service-related issues.

Robert Hewitt

Past President

Robert has been with us for a good long time and was our past President in 2025 and now 2026. He has retired from our Maintenance team and will be missed.

Barb Proudler

Membership Chair

Barb is holding up our membership board, keeping track of and recruiting members.

Our Services

Fundraising Initiatives

We organize various fundraising activities like the Poppy Drive to support our Veteran programs and services. Your participation helps us continue our mission and give back to those who have served our country that are in need.

Social Gatherings

Join us for our regular Friday Suppers starting at 5:30 PM, featuring wholesome good food, meat draws, the Nevada, and 50/50 raffles, to strengthen connections within our community. For Special Occasions, we even bring in a band to tap your feet to or get up and Dance!!! Everyone is welcome to share in the camaraderie and fun.

Historical Exhibits

Explore our own Servicemen's Museum exhibits that showcase the rich local military history and contributions of the Royal Canadian Legion and its members. We aim to educate and inspire visitors about our legacy and values.

Members of the Legion enjoy various benefits, including access to community events, support services for veterans, including 1st responders & RCMP. Plus opportunities to volunteer and give back to the community.


The Royal Canadian Legion has 4 types of membership:

Ordinary membership

Includes still serving and retired military, reservists, RCMP, police officers, Canadian Coast Guard, and others listed in the General By-Laws.

Associate membership 

Includes parents, spouses, widows, widowers, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, as well as nephews of a person who is or was eligible for Ordinary membership.

Affiliate voting membership

Includes Canadian citizens or Commonwealth subjects from an Allied nation who support The Royal Canadian Legion’s aims and objectives and are not eligible for ordinary or associate membership.

Affiliate non-voting membership

Includes non-Canadian citizens or non-Commonwealth subjects from an Allied nation who support The Royal Canadian Legion’s aims and objectives.

To become a member, you can visit our branch at 5116 49th Ave Caroline, AB, or complete the membership application form available on our Command website.


Bring them into the Legion and deposit them in our Flag Box. We will designate a time to hold a Ceremony to lay our National Flags to rest. Flags that we accept: Canada "Maple Leaf", USA "Old Glory", Provincial, and US States. They deserve to be Honoured not just tossed.


Yes, while we have members-only events, many of our events and services are open to the public, such as our Friday Meals. We welcome everyone to participate in our community activities.


Yes, our facilities are available for you to rent and hold your event. Please contact us for more information on availability and rates.


To organize an event, please reach out to our branch manager with your proposal. We'll work with you to plan and execute your event.


Yes, we are always looking for volunteers to help with events and community service projects. We need cooks and helpers to keep our suppers going!!! If you are interested, you can contact us for more information.
